About LearningNAV Foundation
Building the open knowledge navigation infrastructure for the world.
What is LearningNAV
LearningNAV is an open knowledge navigation infrastructure designed to help learners worldwide discover, navigate, and master structured knowledge. It provides a community-maintained knowledge graph that connects concepts, learning paths, and educational resources in a transparent and verifiable way.
Similar to how Wikipedia democratized encyclopedic knowledge and OpenStreetMap democratized geographic data, LearningNAV aims to democratize the infrastructure of learning navigation — making it freely accessible, community-governed, and built for the public good.
Why LearningNAV Exists
Today's learning resources are fragmented across platforms, each with its own proprietary structure and limited interoperability. Learners face significant challenges in finding the right sequence of topics, understanding prerequisites, and verifying the quality of learning materials.
LearningNAV addresses this by providing:
- Structured Knowledge Graph — A curated, versioned graph of knowledge nodes with clear relationships and dependencies.
- Open Learning Paths — Community-created and reviewed sequences that guide learners through topics step by step.
- Verifiable Sources — Every knowledge node and relation includes citations and evidence, ensuring trustworthiness.
- Community Governance — Transparent processes for contribution, review, and decision-making, ensuring the infrastructure remains open and accountable.
Knowledge Navigation Mission
The core mission of LearningNAV is to provide reliable knowledge navigation — helping every learner find the right path from where they are to where they want to be.
This means:
- Mapping the landscape of human knowledge in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Building tools that help learners discover connections between topics they might otherwise miss.
- Maintaining an open infrastructure that anyone can use, contribute to, and build upon.
Open Knowledge Infrastructure
LearningNAV is built as open infrastructure from the ground up. All data is available under open licenses, the codebase is open source, and the governance model is transparent.
Key principles of our infrastructure:
- Open Data — Knowledge graph data is freely accessible via public APIs, under CC BY-SA 4.0.
- Open Source — All platform code is publicly available and open to community contributions.
- Open Standards — We use and promote open standards for knowledge representation and exchange.
- Open Governance — Community-driven decision-making processes ensure the infrastructure serves the public interest.
Community-Driven Learning
LearningNAV is not built by a single organization — it is built by a global community of contributors: educators, researchers, domain experts, and passionate learners who believe that knowledge navigation should be a public good.
Our community contributes by creating and reviewing knowledge nodes, designing learning paths, improving the knowledge graph structure, and participating in governance. Every contribution is recorded, attributed, and transparently reviewed.
We welcome anyone who shares our vision to join the community and help build the future of open learning navigation.
